Stairs at business premises demolished

The stairs were built on the pavement.

The stairs that caused an uproar last month at 1 Gantner Road, Bellavista, have been demolished on July 1.

According to building development management, the stairs contravened by-laws as they were built on the pavement. All necessary contravention notices were given to the owner.

Ward 55 councillor Rashieda Landis welcomed the demolition.

“I’m happy to see some sort of action from the owner. He needed to adhere to the rules. The front must be in line with the other shops. No trading will happen until he complies,” she said.

The COURIER is still waiting for comment from Poppy Louw, who is the media liaison specialist in the office of the MMC for Development Planning.
