Rain causes driveway to collapse in Glenvista

A driveway in Vorster Avenue, Glenvista, collapsed on April 11 due to the high volume of rain that has fallen in the area since the weekend.

Part of the road was temporarily closed due to the rubble laying in the street.

A witness told the CHRONICLE the homeowners were away for the weekend and weren’t at home when the driveway collapsed.

Tyrell Meyers, councillor for Ward 23, said, “The collapse was caused by the rain we had since the weekend. It’s not yet known to us why the driveway collapsed, but it looks to be a problem with the way it was built.”

By the time the CHRONICLE got to the scene, most of the debris was already moved to the side of the road by a volunteer, only partly obstructing Vorster Avenue.
