On April 10, Sedibeng SAPS POPs members were patrolling the R59 highway near the Swartkoppies Road off-ramp when they saw a white Hyundai with four men and stopped it.
They searched the vehicle and its occupants.
“A search of the vehicle revealed firearms, ammunition and empty cartridges. None of them could produce a valid permit or licence to possess the firearms or ammunition,” explained WO Gerhard Cornelius of Brackendowns SAPS.
The four suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and taken to Brackendowns SAPS.
Two firearms, a pistol and revolver, 10 live rounds as well as five cartridges were handed in as evidence, along with the suspects’ cellphones.
Cornelius said the suspects’ vehicle was also seized.
