WATCH: Upper Room Christian Centre intervenes in helping youth

More needs to be done in helping the youth of Bellavista and surrounding to get opportunities.

Women of Worth, from Upper Room Christian Centre in Haddon, organised a community under re-construction event on July 2.

It aimed to empower the youth of Bellavista and surrounding areas with skills and employment opportunities.

Jackie Crosson, from this community-based church, said as a ministry they are trying to help in any way they can to rebuild and uplift the youth and community.

“We reached out to local government and NGOs, businesses and educational facilities to come on board with us by offering pro bona services to the youth. This was in business, education and skills development, educational courses and internships.

“I want to tell you that God has a plan for every one of you. It doesn’t matter where you come from. Don’t ever despise small beginnings because God is always with you,” she said.

Trauma councillor Myrtle Moody said the community needs to tackle social ills, especially drug abuse.

“If there are drug issues in your home that causes you sleepless nights, anger and wanting to throw your family out please seek help. There are lots of addicts in our community. Let’s help one another,” she said.

EMS representative Maria Malatje spoke about their services to the community.

“First of all you need to know that we no longer render ambulances, they are taken by provincial. We respond to emergencies, especially fires. We need to familiarise ourselves with measures that we need to take in case of emergency before we arrived. We all need to learn basic first aid and basic firefighting,” explained Malatje who is in Public Information, Education and Relations (PIER) division.
