Randhart family of cancer warrior supports courageous cancer champs
A Randhart family has celebrated its child’s ‘cancerversary’ by establishing a teddy bear drive through which cancer warriors will adopt a soft toy.
As part of their cancer-free anniversary, a kindhearted Randhart family has gone out of its way to purchase comfort teddy bears of all kinds in support of cancer warriors.
After a decade of being declared cancer-free, the 12-year-old Keri-Lyn Soobramoney’s family has seen it beneficial to celebrate her cancer-free journey with the community.
It has been exactly 10 years since Keri-Lyn was diagnosed with metastatic medulloblastoma, and her family has initiated a teddy bear drive, dubbed Operation Lotsa-Hugs in her honour.
The teddy bear drive was officially initiated at Netcare Alberton Hospital on October 19 for the sole purpose of offering love and support to cancer patients.
“Keri-Lyn, who is in Grade Four attending Alberton Christian Academy, was cleared of brain cancer in 2012. She received treatment at Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre. We now want children of Alberton visiting the new hospital to adopt a teddy bear while they are fighting cancer and take it home with them,” explained her mother Preshen Soobramoney.
She said these young cancer warriors get to fill in an adoption certificate before keeping this gift, as it offers them comfort.
“My message to cancer patients and loved ones is for them to hold on. Prayer and continuously having faith got us through our journey. Where there’s hope and faith, there’s life,” said Preshen.
