
Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested seven suspects for different crimes in Johannesburg from November 18 to 21.
They also recovered five vehicles and two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
One suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, one for possession of a suspected hijacked vehicle, two for possession of suspected stolen property, one for malicious damage to property and two for possession of drugs.
Vehicles recovered are a grey Mercedes Benz, a white Toyota sedan and a red BMW that were hijacked from the owners and a white Nissan Tida and white VW Polo that were recovered stolen.
All vehicles were handed to Aeroton SAPS 13.
The 9mm Z88 firearms, with numbers filed off, were booked in at Alexander SAPS. Johannesburg Flying Squad communications officer Raymond Sambo said the SAPS members are determined to ensure the safety of their communities by eradicating illegal firearms which have found their way into the hands of criminals.
“Investigation continues in all cases, working together with the community led to these recoveries. SAPS appreciates the public for their contribution. It should also be noted that for any information regarding the vehicles, one may contact the relevant detective quoting the relevant case number.
“The suspects appeared at different magistrate courts facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, possession of the suspected stolen property, possession of a suspected hijacked vehicle, malicious damage to property and possession of drugs,” he said.
