The Woman of Stature Awards is a prestigious event that recognises the hard work and dedication of South African female entrepreneurs and businesswomen from various industries.
Tandi was blown away to be named a finalist this year because she has always admired the awards and the work they do to empower and recognise women.
“It is a great honour to be a part of their eighth-anniversary awards event, I am really happy and I hope to take the title home,” enthused Tandi.
Tandi Potgieter
Tandi is the CEO of Icarus Media, which is now in its fifth year and is a well-known social media and public relations marketing firm.
She values community involvement and achieves this through her work with SOJO Business Tourism, where she uses her media skills to promote the South of Johannesburg.
Tandi cites organising the re-launch of the Apartheid Museum and the Jewels of the South Influencer campaign highlighting the beauty of the South as two of her favourite projects.
“I love working in media and using it as a tool to collaborate with others and assist SMMEs in growing. If you are enthusiastic about what you do, it will show, and you will succeed. Because social media is a constantly changing and evolving environment, you must constantly learn and keep up with the trends,” said Tandi.
When asked what her secret to success is, she revealed that believing in herself completely and not giving up until you reach her goals got her to where she is now.
“This isn’t always easy, but perseverance is key. I also believe in saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity. Never let self-doubt hold you back. You never know where that path will take you,” said Tandi.
Women of Stature, CEO
According to the CEO and Founder of Woman of Stature Foundation, Charlotte du Plessis, the Woman of Stature Awards 2023 seeks to recognise and honour exceptional women in 10 categories.
“These categories include CEO of the year, entrepreneur of the year, woman in arts and culture, woman in beauty and fashion, woman in community, woman in coaching and mentoring, woman in education, woman in media, woman in science and innovation, woman in technology, and the overall winner, Woman of Stature along with the two special awards which are fundraiser of the year and public choice award.
“The awards are intended to help women advance their careers and businesses; while many are already prominent members of their communities, some may not be fully developed or have reached the pinnacle of their success.
“These awards provide numerous opportunities, give them access to various platforms, and assist them in developing their skills and talents, climbing the success ladder, and becoming globally competitive,” said Du Plessis.
“I seek to celebrate diversity in all of its forms, as well as to bridge cultural and social differences that can so easily sabotage the gift of collectivism and the development of an inspired, empowered collective psyche of South African Women who will accept nothing less than their rightful place in every space: personal and professional.
“I believe that by empowering ourselves and accepting every responsibility that comes with it, we are empowering and building a new nation of women and men.
I hope that, through myself and my organisation, I can channel this message and provide a voice for the voiceless and de-voiced,” said Du Plessis.
She highlighted that excellence deserves recognition.
