Science learners tour Mall of the South
Grade 12 science learners from Kibler Park Secondary School go on an edifying masterclass tour at Mall of the South
Mall of the South took the Grade 12 science learners from Kibler Park Secondary School on an educational tour at the centre, at the end of the first term.
The purpose of the tour was to expose the matriculants to the recent energy initiatives adopted by the mall as part of their sustainability initiatives.
Learners were given an overview of the mall’s Environmental, Social Governance strategic investments on energy, smart water consumption and harvesting measures, building management system and air conditioning quality usage and monitoring.
They were then taken through a brief masterclass on the solar photovoltaic system and the recently completed installation at the Mall of the South. This included a presentation on the plant costs involved, projected environmental impact, financial savings, social contribution (employment opportunities created) as well as other little nuggets of information from the overall project.
The masterclass was followed by a physical tour of the various infrastructures in the building where the students were exposed to the different technologies that contribute to the successful operation of the building e.g., generators, chillers, BMS electrical switchgear and transformers, solar panels and inverters among others.
As the country’s future leaders, the students were also encouraged to pursue career opportunities that aim at addressing social ills, environmental challenges, and technological advancement. The day ended with the students being treated to a wonderful lunch sponsored by Debonairs Pizza.
