Brackendowns jumble sale fundraiser uplifts vendors
Funds raised during the Brackendowns Market Day will go a long way in making the area more secure.
The Brackendowns community hosted a jumble sale on July 1, to help curb crime in the area and uplift local vendors.
Brackendowns 1 is reportedly a major entry point for criminals coming in from the veld. The community got together to raise funds to increase security measures in the area.
Locals came together at the veld near Sharondale Garden Centre and showed support by shopping for amazing deals on kitchenware, clothing, toys, linen, ornaments and décor among other goods sold on the day. Tasty treats were also on offer.
Organiser Charlotte Carvalho said the jumble sale was about supporting battling residents who are currently working from home under different circumstances.
“I decided to do the sale and have residents prepare food and sell their items. They were not charged to sell their items and from the money I collected, proceeds will go towards securing our area. We’ve already put in five license plate recognition cameras and face recognition cameras in certain areas,” she explained.
She said she is also leading a project of placing speed humps and trimming/cutting down trees.
Carvalho thanked CPS Security and AfriForum as well as the community for showing their continuous support towards the jumble sale.
