Women mugged in South Hills

They didn’t open cases because they said nothing is being done anyway.

Cases of women being mugged in the early hours of the morning appear to be on the rise in South Hills.

The Southern Courier spoke to a couple of women who have been mugged and they lamented poor police visibility in the area. They said they need police to be visible at all times, especially in the mornings when they go to work.

They said there was a crime stop march which was attended by Moffat View SAPS. At the march police promised the residents that they would be patrolling the area, however, it has not happened.

There are cars without number plates involved in the robberies and victims mentioned a white Toyota Yaris and white BMW. The streets mentioned are Outspan and Bethlehem roads, also Geneva Road and Shannon Road next to the car wash.

One woman said, “We were with other women at 05:00 when a white Toyota Yaris with no number plates pulled over next to us. Three guys alighted with one holding a gun. They took our phones. It was on Outspan Road,” she said.

When asked whether they opened a case at the police station, they said: “No, as nothing will happen, as always.”
Another woman said she also fell victim in Geneva Road where her phone was taken. She also mentioned that she didn’t open a case.

An enquiry was sent to police spokesmen Captain Jeff Phora and Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo. The Southern Courier has not received any response.
