Motocross champ (7) proudly represents SA during the MXoAN
Luan Jordaan has proudly represented South Africa during the International Motocross of African Nations recently held between August 11 to 13 in Cape Town.
Laerskool Randhart’s Luan Jordaan was selected as part of the five-man South African team to compete in the 50cc class at the International Motocross of African Nations.
The team consisted of Riley Geldenhuys, Aden Fisher, Parker Cik, Luan Jordaan and Mason Visser.
The event line-up consisted of 32 riders at the 50cc starting gate with riders from Namibia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Botswana and Zambia.
On the first day of the event, Luan qualified in fifth place during free practice and 10th place during qualifying practice.
“The first heat officially started and Luan managed to finish 11th and was complaining about mechanical difficulties after the race. After much investigation it was determined that Luan had a broken clutch due to the sandy conditions,” explained his father, Corne.
On day two, the seven-year-old went out with his replacement bike and was determined to change the outcome for the remainder of the heat three events.
During heat two, Jordaan said he was able to secure a fifth position after losing the fourth place due to him being stuck behind four back markers, where fellow South African Aden Fisher was able to overtake him.
“During heat three, Luan’s determination to succeed once again gave him the strength to push beyond his limits and managed to get fourth position, which secured him the overall individual fourth place for the MXoAN event. Luan’s individual results were not the only thing to celebrate,” he said.
The South African 50cc team won the overall championship with 107 points with Kenya in second place with 51 points and Zimbabwe in third place with 41 points.
“Luan is extremely proud to have been able to represent his country, his province and his community and is grateful for all the support which he has received from his fellow Albertonians. He is looking forward to the remainder of his racing season with one national and two regional races left to complete,” Jordaan said.
