City of Johannesburg swimming pool season opens
Remember it is prohibited to smoke narcotics and bring alcohol in the pools.
Get ready to make a splash as the City of Johannesburg’s public swimming pools kick off the 2023/24 swimming season.
With a total of 57 pools, the excitement is about to begin.
MMC for Community Development Lubabalo Magwentshu said, “Starting from September 1, 18 pools will open their gates for the public to enjoy. And that’s not all, an additional 29 pools will be opening during the season, which extends until the end of March 2024. Make sure you seize this opportunity to enjoy the water.”
Tuesday to Friday, you can swim from 10:00 to 18:00. On weekends, the fun continues from 10:00 to 17:00. That is the perfect way to beat the heat and enjoy some outdoor recreation.
Entry fees start at just R6 and go upwards (visit www.joburg.org.za). A small cost for a refreshing and enjoyable experience.
Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just dipping your toes, everyone is encouraged to join in the summer celebration. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to swim, stay active with water aerobics and brush up on water safety skills.
Your safety matters. Please remember that pushing, running and bringing glasses into the pool or deck area is not allowed.
Alcohol and the smoking of narcotics are strictly prohibited.
Beyond just swimming, the pools will offer a variety of activities. Take advantage and learn how to swim, join water aerobics sessions and enhance your water safety knowledge. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Swimming pools opening on September 1 in Region F include Forest Hill (John Stephenson Road, Golf Street and Rifle Range Road), Crown Gardens (corner Ulster Crescent), Moffat Park (corner Southern Klipriviersberg and Nephin roads) and Southern Suburb (1 Short Street in Oakdene). The Turffontein one in Eastwood Street will open in November.
Due to vandalism, stripping and major renovations/construction site, the Pioneer Park pool on the corner of Rosettenville Road and 11th Street will not open.
