Young stars are born

“The week-long competition served as a spotlight for the diverse talents of 24 learners spanning across grades eight to 11. Guiding this cohort of 24 talented learners through the challenges of the competition, Lorato Molepo’s dedication and determination became evident. She said: “Out of the 15 learners who entered the district-level competition, an impressive number secured first and second place positions, propelling them to the provincial level.

“The provincial competition, a meeting ground for top talents from various districts, proved to be no easy feat. Nevertheless, amid the fierce competition, a star emerged from Kibler Park Secondary School. Talitha Xaba from Grade Eight. She claimed third place in the formal poetry category.

“Talitha’s victory not only showcased her exceptional skills but also highlighted the dedication of the school’s educators in nurturing these talents.“Another feather in the school’s cap came courtesy of Relebohile Thinane, a Grade Nine learner who secured third place in the vocal solo category. These accomplishments stand as a testament to the untapped potential that resides within the walls of our school, a potential that the festival successfully illuminated.”

A challenge or two

As the journey to success unfolded, it wasn’t devoid of challenges. Molepo emphasised the significance of timely information and themes for the competition. Clear communication ensures that learners and educators have ample time to prepare and channel their creative energies in line with the festival’s requirements.

The experience led Molepo to underscore the importance of having well-defined guidelines and sufficient preparation time for forthcoming events.

Looking ahead, the school’s aspirations are set high. The goal isn’t solely to sustain participation in the Segarona Arts and Culture Festival, but to expand their presence and influence within the event.

Molepo, an artist in her own right, underscores the importance of parental support in nurturing artistic inclinations. She urges parents to provide an environment that encourages creativity.

Parents can contribute to the emergence of potential artists and cultural ambassadors from within their communities.
