Gala dinner to help support learners with autism

The gala dinner is on April 26.

The Tamarisk Special School for Autism in South Hills will host a fundraising event at Blue Mango Lodge and Garden Venue in Kempton Park on April 26 from 17:30.

Join them for the gala dinner. The theme is formal with a touch of gold.

Principal Nomusa Vezi said they are a government special school for autism with an enrollment capacity of 103 learners from all over the South district. Autism is a developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact by restricted or repetitive patterns of thoughts and behaviour.

Most learners in the school also come from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds and the school depends on government funding to run the school. “Autism is hardly unknown to many people. As a school, we would love to take part in raising funds so that we can expose our learners to extra mural activities and buy vehicles to transport our learners to and from school. This will unlock their abilities since we believe that all learners are capable of learning.

“Our mission is to create a safe environment for our learners. It is in this regard that we need donations to build a strong brick exterior wall for our school since the one we have is not safe enough for our learners. We also need donations to enhance our school,” explained Vezi.

For more information on the tickets, contact the school on 071 193 2713. The school is at 33 Ficksburg Road, South Hills.
