Om Sri Kumaraya Ashram & Mandir donates blankets to less fortunate in Alberton

Om Sri Kumaraya Ashram & Mandir donated 100 blankets and fed over 200 tummies on their blanket drive in Alberton.

Over 100 blankets were distributed to the destitute and more than 200 homeless people received a meal during a blanket drive.

Guru Jay Naidoo, founder of Om Sri Kumaraya Ashram & Mandir did a blanket drive at the corner of Eeufees Street and Van Riebeeck Avenue in Alberton North on May 1.

The blankets distributed will ensure some warmth for those living on the streets when the cold winter months hit and an added extra was, of course, the meals the homeless received.

Om Sri Kumaraya Ashram & Mandir has been running for over 16 years and is located in Lenasia South Ext 10.
Nirvaghanee Pillay is among the people who accompanied Naidoo on his blanket drive.

Pillay is a devotee at the temple, a title holder for Miss Alberton Charity 2022, and the current title holder for Miss India SA Charity 2023.

She also has established her very own non-profit organisation Niv_ er giveup and she strives to be the heart that loves the ear that listens, and lips that smile for others.

Naidoo was also joined by Estelle Mulongo, a compassionate young lady who tries to serve those who are underprivileged although she does not receive an income herself.

According to Mulongo, this love for humanity has created an environment to try to help and keep her occupied. She aims to start a small kitchen to offer at least a meal daily for the street dwellers.

Naidoo, who is the guru of this temple, strongly believes in serving the community not only around where the temple is situated but in other areas that demand the need to be served as well.

“He is a kind, compassionate man who teaches you the value of a simple yet loving life to lead. Stepping out of the area in which the temple is situated to serve the Alberton community teaches us that stepping out of your comfort zone can sometimes assist others in need,” said Pillay.

Naidoo passed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who lovingly donated the blankets.

“We would also like to thank Annie Bhadhur for the rolls, Bossy Designs for the Sausages, and Ugeshni Moodley for the juices,” said Naidoo.
