WATCH: Naturena community marches to say ‘Enough is Enough’ to GBV

Residents, church members, and local leaders united in a walk organised by the Naturena SDA Church to raise awareness against violence and abuse.

The Enough is Enough GBV Awareness Walk took place on August 24 in Naturena and was organised by the Naturena Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church.

The event saw participants march from the Naturena SDA Church at 2 Ronald Road to the open space at 88 Hamilton St, Naturena Ext 19.

The march aimed to raise awareness against all forms of violence and abuse, especially against women and children, including physical, emotional, psychological, mental, economic, and sexual violence.

Attendees wore black, white, and red, the designated colours for the event, which represented equality.

The community came together to show solidarity against GBV, with the support of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality Ward 19 and Women’s Ministries.

An attendee, Thembi Mkhize, commented, “It was powerful to see so many people come together to say ‘enough is enough’ to violence in our communities. It reminded me that we all have a role to play in creating a safer society.”

SDA Church member Mamsie Sekamogeng said, “We were thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm of participants. The walk sent a clear message to our community that we will not tolerate any form of violence. We hope to continue this conversation and take action to protect and empower our community members.”
