Residents and community organisations marched to Booysens SAPS on Nelson Road on July 30 to hand over a memorandum calling for stronger law enforcement and coordinated action to address crime and by-law violations in the Booysens and Moffat View policing precincts.

The peaceful march concluded with community representatives handing the memorandum to SAPS officials.

Police acknowledged receipt by signing and stamping the document before the crowd dispersed peacefully.

In the memorandum, residents called on Booysens and Moffat View SAPS, together with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the Department of Home Affairs, the City of Johannesburg and other relevant government departments, to conduct coordinated operations to address ongoing concerns in the area.

Among the issues raised were alleged illegal businesses, undocumented foreign nationals operating businesses, illegal electricity connections, unlicensed liquor outlets, suspected drug houses, illegal dumping, unsafe buildings and businesses operating without the required municipal approvals.

The community also requested regular feedback on the implementation of the memorandum and urged authorities to strengthen visible policing and law enforcement efforts.

Residents said they hope the memorandum will lead to meaningful action and improved safety in the Booysens and Moffat View communities.
