No water for South Hills and Forest Hill areas after tower supply failures
Residents told to wait as JHB Water and Rand Water investigate supply issues.
Thousands of residents supplied by the South Hills Water Tower and Forest Hill Water Tower have had little to no water supply since August 8, Joburg south ward councillors have confirmed.
In a joint statement, Clr Michael Crichton, Clr Faeeza Chame and Clr Rashieda Landis said they are aware of ongoing complaints regarding the water outages affecting the areas fed by both towers.
South Hills Water Tower
According to the councillors, Johannesburg Water has confirmed there is currently no inflow to the South Hills Water Tower, and as a result there is no supply to surrounding areas.
The update comes despite assurances that repairs at the Palmiet Pumping Station would be completed the previous day.
“This is disappointing given the fact that the issue at the Palmiet Pumping Station was supposed to have been fixed,” Crichton said.
Forest Hill Water Tower
For the Forest Hill Water Tower, Johannesburg Water indicated the problem may lie further up the supply chain.
“Joburg Water said that they will have to revert back to us on this one, but it appears to be a supply issue from Rand Water’s side,” the statement read.
The councillors said they are awaiting further feedback from both Johannesburg Water and Rand Water and will update residents as soon as more information is available.
“As soon as we receive further feedback, we will revert back to everyone,” the statement concluded.
Residents in affected areas are advised to store water where possible and monitor official channels for updates on restoration times.
