McDonald’s transforms family meal times with Happy, the new brand ambassador

Happy is an animated McDonald's character that was first introduced in 2009 to children and families in France.

SOUTHGATE – Happy is here! McDonald’s SA announced the latest reason for families to continue to be surprised and delighted by McDonald’s, through the introduction of a new animated character, Happy, the global brand ambassador that promotes healthy choices and fun at meal times.

Born from the original Happy Meal box, the new Happy virtual characters aims to reignite the love for the brand and the excitement that kids express at the prospect of opening the Happy Meal box. Happy promotes McDonald’s push for utilising innovative technologies by evolving the static brand to that of a virtual brand promoting physical activity for kids and their parents.

“McDolnald’s is a family restaurant. Through the Happy character, we hope not only to promote a healthy active lifestyle, but encourage families to do more physical activities together, recreating special fun-filled moments that are shared by all. More importantly, we are all about giving kids and their parents something extra special to look forward to during their next trip to McDonald’s,” said Daniel Padiachy, senior marketing director at McDonald’s SA.

Current work pressure and daily deadlines see families spending less and less time together, and as the family remains the cornerstone of what McDonald’s stands for, Happy aims to encourage families to re-connect through active play, while sparking loads of fun moments for the whole family.

Happy is an animated McDonald’s character that was first introduced in 2009 to children and families in France. Happy has since made its debut in Latin America and other countries in Europe and is now set to make a grand entrance in South Africa.

Happy will be introduced nationwide over the next few months, and both parents and kids across South Africa can look forward to the Happy roadshow that will take place in all major centres around South Africa.
