98.5% pass rate at Glenvista High

Excellent performance by Glenvista High School pupils.

GLENVISTA High School matriculants excelled despite concerns by Basic Education Minister and other education bodies over an expected drop in matric pass rate due to CAPS Curriculum.

“We got a 98.5 per cent pass rate and a 70 per cent admission to a bachelor studies,” said Glenvista High School’s Deputy Principal, Mrs M Maritz. Adding that, the school was very pleased with the results achieved by learners.

“Some of our pupils were very happy and it seems that the parents were the ones who stressed the most. They all said that they did not sleep much last night,” continued Mrs Maritz.

The total number of distinctions achieved by Glenvista High School was 222, and the highest number of distinctions by a learner being six distinctions.

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga attributed the drop in the pass rate to the change in curriculum with Outcomes Based Education (OBE) being replaced by CAPS Curriculum. The change in curriculum has been said by Minister Motshekga to have put a strain on schools across the country.

Matriculants in Gauteng’s were the top achievers nationally being the top performing province in 2014, Gauteng achieved an 84.7 per cent pass rate and the national pass rate was 75.8 per cent.
