Sassa responds to Chantelle’s complaint

38-year-old Chantelle van Rooyen from Moffatview complained that her grant was discontinued four years ago although she is still on medication after suffering an accident 13 years ago.

MOFFATVIEW – Acting senior manager of the South African Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) communications and marketing department, Nandipha Mosia, responds to the COURIER’s request for comment on Chantelle van Rooyen’s application:

“Van Rooyen first applied for a social grant in June 2009. The disability grant was awarded for a period of 12 months. She reapplied and was again awarded 12 months approval that was followed by another approval for six months and then 12 months in 2012. Her grant lapsed in 2013 and she re-applied in February 2015 of which the grant was refused. Upon this rejection in February 2015 she applied for an internal reconsideration mechanism (IRM) that was rejected in February and transferred to the tribunal that issued an outcome of rejection as well,” she said.

“The client was advised to visit her nearest SASSA office to apply for a social grant. Should she be unhappy with the outcomes of that application the same process will have to be followed for lodging a dispute. Please note that the client was never in receipt

of a permanent social grant.”
