INTERNATIONALLY celebrated Red Bull athlete and drift racer Mike Whiddett, popularly known as “Mad Mike”, will be back in South Africa with his tour.

The SupaDrift Series will head to Carnival City on Saturday, September 23. Mad Mike will also be filming an episode of his reality series ‘My Mad Mike Life’ while in the country. He started his tour in Cape Town on Saturday, September 17.

The event promises to be nothing short of insane as Mad Mike tears the track up in his drift weapon of choice – the legendary Quad Rotary RX.

Running for its fifth year, the event dubbed “Wheels of Fury” will test Africa’s leading drifters as they clutch kick and counter steer their way through the maniacal drift gauntlet, “Drift X”, which will test the fine line between physics, creativity and epic wickedness as athletes power slide below a GoodHope construction truck, amongst other mind-blowing obstacles.

Wheels of Fury support a CSI initiative called G-CAP (Great Cape Ambassadors Project), which is spearheaded by the grandmaster of SA hip-hop and drift enthusiast, DJ Ready D.

This event definitely caters to all motor enthusiasts, their families and even newbies looking for an entertainment extravaganza as it boasts an automotive aftermarket and lifestyle show, and an exhibit area to view exotic show vehicles.

“I’ve heard so much about the South African fans and I can’t wait to get out there. I’ve seen the local SA drift scene in clips and it looks like a whole lot of fun,” said Whiddett from Japan where he was participating in Formula Drift. “I’m pumped to showcase what the Mazda RX8 is capable of and meet the fans first-hand.”

It’s a maiden trip to Africa for Whiddett. “I’m stoked to head over to get amongst the local drivers and drive scene,” he said. “For me this trip is an exploration of both South Africa and its culture as much as it’s a motor sports trip.”
