New Jaguar F-Type ready to pounce

Jaguar recently revealed a new F-Type model and while it retains much from the previous award-winning design, there are unmistakable changes on the exterior and interior.

At the front of the F-Type R, you will find super-slim pixel LED headlights with the daytime running lights subtly updated yet still retain the J shape. The front bumper has been updated to accommodate a slightly larger grille below the new clamshell bonnet. The rear of the vehicle features new more slender lights with a more linear design to accentuate the signature LED chicane. The central exhaust pipes are now situated at both ends of the bumper, similar to that of the SVR derivative in the previous model. All four corners now feature new, wider, 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels finished in Gloss Black with the diamond-turned finish.

The interior of the new F-Type will see materials used such as Windsor leather and satin-finish Noble chrome. Additional details such as monogram stitch patterns and Jaguar leaper motifs can be found around the cabin alongside the subtle ‘Jaguar Est.1935’ markings on the centre console finisher, glovebox release button surround, and seatbelt guides. In front of the driver, there is a 12.3-inch high definition TFT instrument cluster which is reconfigurable with a variety of different displays options which includes a map mode; the default mode features a large central tachometer. The F-Type comes with the latest Touch Pro infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, complemented by two Meridian sound systems, and allows for software-over-the-air functionality which updates the system without the owner having to visit a service centre.

The start button will bring to life either one of the three engine choices, a 221 kW turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor, a 280 kW supercharged petrol V6 or a 423 kW petrol V8 supercharged motor, the latter featuring an active exhaust system as standard and capable of completing a 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.7 seconds. Customers who opted for the V8 will benefit from a Quiet Start function which will keep the valves in the rear silencer closed until it comes under load. F-Type fans can rejoice as Jaguar retained the infamous crackle and pop sounds on the overrun on all three engine options. All three the engine derivatives comes fitted to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission which allows for manual control using either the SportShift gear selector or the steering wheel-mounted paddles.

Jaguar will be offering an exclusive F-Type First Edition model for one model year only. The exclusive option is based on the R-Dynamic model but will come with an exterior design pack finished in Dorchester Grey, complemented by five-spoke, 20-inch wheels finished in Gloss Technical Grey with a contrasting Diamond-Turned finish. Customers can opt for either; Santorini Black, Eiger Grey or Fuji White for the body colour while the interior will feature 12-way Windsor leather seats finished in Ebony with either Light Oyster stitching or Mars with Flame Red stitching. The driver will notice the instrument cluster which is wrapped in Alcantara with Monogram embossing and the aluminium gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel. The new F-Type range will be launched in sub-Sahara Africa in 2020 with pricing revealed closer to the time.
