A tough year comes to a good end for Stepping Stone
Like any other NPO, Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Service had a tough year.
Yet, with a fund-raising team that rose to the financial crisis and the ongoing support of the community, events were well attended and the NPO ended the year on a high note when it received Lotto funding.
In her report during its recent AGM, Tersia Burger, the CEO, also stated the charity shop ended on a profitable note and that they were the first hospice in South Africa to provide accredited Quality Council for Trades and Occupations Home-Based Personal Care course. Thirty students were funded by Discovery under the Youth Employment Programme.
At the end of February, Sr Margi Bollman was welcomed to the management team.
Through their clinical palliative care, they aim to improve the quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families, providing support for patients to live as actively as possible.
Throughout the year they recorded 1 079 home sister visits and 5 189 interventions. These interventions included telephone calls, psychosocial interventions, food and medicine parcels.

• The volunteers who selflessly give their time – a total of 3 465 hours
