Youth learn the basics of canoeing

Church youth and young adults learn the basics of canoeing from the Sports4life team.

Around 60 people from the NG Church Alberton-Suid visited Sports4life at the Johannesburg Canoe Club for their youth and young adult’s year-end function.

The Sports4life team gave them an introduction to canoeing with three of the top development canoeists acting as assistant coaches.

The visitors were initially assisted by the coaches in two and three-seater canoes until they mastered the basic skills needed and then many of then took to their own stable single-seater canoes.

“This group of youth and young adults embraced the experience wholeheartedly and were an absolute joy to introduce to the joys and fun of canoeing,” said Pete Russouw the Sports4life coach.

“We were especially amazed at the keenness shown by the young ladies.”

The committee of the club ensured food and drink supply for the afternoon and were assisted by helpful club members in ensuring the afternoon was enjoyed by all.

“If anyone would like to learn the awesome art of canoeing, they will be enthusiastically welcomed by myself as club coach and the club members,” said Pete.
