January 15, was a busy day filled with drama and tears as children started their first day of school.
For some, being in an unfamiliar environment was scary, all they wanted to go back home.
Five-year-old Nqobile Sunduza, a newcomer at Tumang Primary School was the main attraction.
He would not stop crying, all he wanted was his mother.
The principal, Eunice Mzankomo, took him in to her office but things got worse.
It was only after a few hours that he stopped crying when it dawned that he was not getting his way.
Mzankomo said the teachers are used to it but admits that it can be mayhem with children crying while there is administration that needs to be sorted out.
Next to the school, two-year-old Naledi Lekwane hung onto her mom’s (Lydia Lekwane) leg when she realised she was going to be dropped off with strangers.
“She will get used to it.
“It is not nice seeing her cry but it has to be done,” she said.
