Questions raised over mobile classes

SGB concerned over safety issues of mobile classrooms.

SGB chairperson at Julius Sebolai Primary School, Theresia Mbokazi said she is concerned about the safety of pupils since they use mobile classes.

This follows numerous complaints from parents questioning the level of safety of their children at the school.

These shelters were there since 2004.

She alleges that the Department of Education has not been responding to their cry, in fact people were sent only to perform inspections that brought ‘no change’.

Mbokazi said the SGB committee wants a proper school built for the children.

“The classes we are using now have been severely damage from the floor, walls and other things.

She said” They were supposed to be used temporarily but how long is that?

Johannesburg West district director Dennis Macuacua said the DOE is aware of the problem.

Macuacua agreed that inspectors were sent to check the conditions at various schools and that now they are busy fixing them.

“We work through reports, whenever a school reports a problem we then attend to it immediately.

He said” I urge all schools to use their maintenance budgets effectively and to fix minor problems than letting them worsen.
