Residents put project to a halt

Employ us or else.....

Furious Ward 37 residents have stopped a project of refurbishing the Jabavu stadium after claiming that the people employed to work on this development are not from the area.

The residents gathered at the stadium yesterday and today, and despite meeting with their ward councillor, they were still not satisfied with her answers of how these workers were chosen.

Resident Xolie Langa said: “We have stopped the process as we want the councillor to take us, people from this area.
“Most of us are unemployed and we don’t understand how we have been sidelined and not put in this project.”

Ward councillor Ntombizodwa Nxumalo said people of Sikhakhane Street should understand that they cannot be the only ones working on this project as it is aimed at benefiting the entire ward.

She said that they have to take people from the whole ward to work in each project so that it can be fair for all who live in this place.
