The City of Johannesburg proposed 2014/15 property rates and tariffs could bring tough times for those who use electricity excessively.
The proposed tariffs increase could also result in prepaid electricity being more expensive than conventional electricity.
If prepaid users were deemed ‘High Usage’ they would have increased tariffs.
Domestic and sectional tariff rates would go up by six percent.
Electricity and water would increase from 7.36 percent to 5.8 percent respectfully; however this also depends on the consumption.
The bin levy of R485 for lost and stolen refuse bins has been scrapped.
The public has until April 28 to submit comments by emailing mphomap@joburg.org.za or fax it to 086 641 7471.
