85 000 candidates to write matric supplementary exams

Centres that were implicated in last year’s group copying scandal will not be allowed to administer the supplementary examinations.

The Department of Basic Education announced yesterday that 85 000 people had registered for writing supplementary examinations this year.

Department spokesperson Elijah Mahlangu, said the centres that were implicated in the group copying scandal however, would not be allowed to administer the supplementary examinations.

He said this was a decision agreed upon as the department and Umalusi.

The supplementary examinations will take place at 6 103 centres throughout the country.
