Man killed by angry mob unidentified

A man assaulted by a mob will be buried by the government should his family not come forward.

Police are looking for the family of a man who died after being attacked by a mob in Meadowlands Zone Two on August 30.

The man, aged between 24 and 26 years old, was allegedly beaten by residents following accusations of housebreaking in the area.

“Police and paramedics were called by other residents who witnessed the ordeal.

“Unfortunately the man passed away two days later before he could give us details about his family and contact details.

“All we have are his initials, surname and his residential zone.” said police spokesperson Sargent Octavia Thebe.

The man said he resided in Meadowlands Zone Two and his initials are IM Stuurman.

“We’re pleading with residents to help us find his family because his body is still at the mortuary in Baragwanath Hospital.

“If nobody comes forward, he will be buried by the government (pauper funeral). ” said Thebe.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Warrant Officer Evans Mahowa on 011 983 3300.
