Westbury Woman achieving their goals and inspiring the community
Two women from Westside have once again done the area proud in striving for success and becoming an example for many other women in the community.
Portia Esau who is the business owner of “Portia’s One Stop” has made it through as a finalist for the Sage One 702 Small Business Awards while Jeanine Keet from Westbury has won her place at Miss Earth SA as 1st Princess “Miss Air”.
Sage One is online accounting and payroll software that makes quick work of the daily.
With 702 Talk Radio, they sponsor the small business awards event.
Esau, who registered her business “Portia’s One Stop” in 2007, enjoys cooking and baking for the community and is now established as one of the best small businesses in the Westside area.
Her cakes go as far as all over Soweto, Midrand, Pretoria, Pietersburg, Venda, to name a few and consistently.
She has also now been selected to represent Westbury at The Skills Village/Party programme.
The programme is called Experience Economy Entrepreneurs Challenge 2030 in which she attended a three-day workshop based on entrepreneurial values and business ownership.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me throughout and the almighty for his grace.
“I am really grateful for the opportunity and hope to represent my community well,” said Esau.

Keet who finished as first runner-up for the Miss Earth SA 2016 competition has done numerous projects in Westside which includes:
- Newclare Primary School- Education on “Waste Stops with Me Project” with Grade Two pupils, up-cycling tin cans into pencil holders and educating them on the importance of the environment and planting two Chionunthus Faveolated trees.
- Westbury Primary School- planting eight Chionunthus Faveolated trees.
- Visiting Pikitup Waterval Depot & The Buy Back Centre – Self-empowering education on recycling among others.
“Thank you to the principals of Newclare and Westbury Primary Schools who allowed me to educate their pupils about the environment, Pikitup Waterval Depot, Buyback Centre, Delta Environmental Centre & Gauteng Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, Just Love organisation and my mother for her support,” said Keet.
“My goal is to continue bringing awareness in schools through educational & environmental outreach programs and to encourage them to live a green healthy lifestyle that will benefit us and the earth we live in,” said Keet.

Keet and Esau have committed themselves to the upbringing of the community and hope to continue their work positively.
