The Naledi police have arrested about 25 suspects under their Community Safety Programme for crimes ranging from armed robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, theft, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of dagga and selling of liquor without a license.
Last week Monday, a 27- year- old man from Emndeni was arrested for being in possession of a stolen Blue VW Golf GTI that was reported stolen in the West Rand.
The police followed a tracker signal from the vehicle and when the suspects noticed the police, they abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot.
The police gave chase and managed to arrest one of the two men and charged him with being found in the possession of a stolen motor vehicle at corner Njokweni and Daliwonga street in Emndeni.
Other police successes in brief:
- On Tuesday, the police recovered a white Toyota Dyna 2 ton truck at Maneti Street in Emndeni. The vehicle had no occupant inside .
- A 53- year- old man from Emndeni was arrested for assaulting a 23- year- old woman with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
- On Wednesday, a 33- year -old man from Naledi was arrested for assaulting a 28 –year- old woman who is also from Naledi
- A man aged 38 was arrested for assaulting a 44- year- old man from Emndeni with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
- A 32 –year- old man from Naledi was arrested for stealing a Sony Ericsson cellphone valued at R4500.00 in Tladi gym.
- On Friday, two Mozambican nationals aged 25 and 28 were arrested for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspects were arrested after they robbed a 21 -year -old man who was selling vegetable on the street in Moletsane. The suspects pretended as if they wanted to buy veggies, but instead pulled out a toy gun and searched the victim. The suspects took the victims cellphone, a Nokia Asha and cash amounting to R350.00 and ran away. The suspects were arrested near the Naledi bridge and charged with armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
- Four men aged between 20 and 25 were arrested for possession of dagga in Naledi and Tladi.
- On Saturday, nine men from Protea North and Naledi were arrested for possession of dagga, the suspects are aged between 24 and 42.
- Four shebeens operating without liquor licenses in Emndeni and Tladi were shut down and the owners aged between 22, 45 both women and 39, 58 both men respectively were fined for contravention of the liquor act.
- On Sunday, a man aged 20 from Zola was arrested for theft of a laptop in Emndeni.
