South African Police Service (SAPS) condemns cop killings
"The murder of any of our own is intolerable and such acts should not go unpunished."
The Acting National Police Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) calls on the public to help law enforcement agencies in condemning and apprehending those responsible for the on-going killings of members of the SAPS.
“The murder of any of our own is intolerable and such acts should not go unpunished. We hereby call upon anyone with information to come forward and assist us” said Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane.
“The management of the SAPS views the attacks on our members very seriously and calls upon members to respond accordingly to such attacks within the confines of the laws of our country.
“The use of proportional force and the exercising of maximum restraint must be guiding principles in the execution of our policing mandate.
“The SAPS will continue to ensure that officers had the necessary skills required to respond to specific situations,” said General Khomotso Phahlane.
In the latest incidents, the Kliptown SAPS lost some of their police officials.
Constable Tshililo Ramulifho was killed in a fatal shooting, where suspects in a Golf VW stopped their vehicle in front of the cops and started shooting at them; unfortunately, Ramulifho sustained multiple injuries and was declared deceased by paramedics upon arrival.
Constable Maseko was shot while off duty in Moroka by an unidentified suspect.
It is alleged that he was on his way home with his friend when the incident occurred. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Captain Hitler Ngwenya, Kliptown Communications Officer said that this is unacceptable and whether or not Police officers are on duty, they have to be free, and not be fearful of such criminality.
Ngwenya said that while arrests are yet to be made, he believed this would happen soon.
