Retro inspired Sophiatown style
As fashion evolves the retro style always find its way in the fashion scene

Styleart Avenue, through their look, has been able to recapture the 1950’s Sophiatown fashion characterised with elegance yet adding the elements of township life.
Styleart Avenue is a combination of four creatives from Soweto namely; Madywabe, Kweleta, Makoni and Gwangwa who are inspired by untold stories, through fashion, style and photography.
The four young men, who are part of Styleart Avenue, dress in vintage suits giving them a modern look but not losing the classic touch.
According to Simphiwe Madywabe, style art is all about bringing our sense of style and art together, trying to tell a story with our pictures, while avenue serves as the platform where we showcase our work in social media platforms.
“As for Styleart, we all have different individual tastes and styles, therefore, we try by all means to incorporate what each and every member brings to the table and also draw inspiration from our surrounding.
“Our work portrays moments of clarity and distinctive creative artistic brilliance.”
Madywabe with Siyabulele Kweleta, Lwandile Makoni, and Itumeleng Gwanga said that their look is inspired by untold stories they see from their grandparents, uncles and aunts pictures.
“We incorporate those stories with the new age so that when we bring them to life, people can understand what we are trying to portray.”
The quartet said that they want to be associated with a few local and international brands.
“We also have upcoming projects which will be mainly focused on producing quality clothing range.”
“Play with what you have around so you can know what really suits and works for you.
“You can be a master of your own style,” said Madywabe.
