Police suspect taxi violence over the death of Three people shot in Tshepisong yesterday

Investigation underway following possible taxi violence attacks in Soweto.

An investigation headed by the Gauteng police is underway following the killing of two taxi drivers and one passenger in Tshepisong.

Two passengers and another taxi driver were also injured during the shootings and rushed to a hospital.

The incident happened around 7:30 pm.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubele, a taxi driver drove his Quantum right in front of a Siyaya taxi that was carrying passengers. The Quantum driver stood in the way of the Siyaya.

Makhubele said two other taxis stopped to help calm down the situation but were confronted by flying bullets.

“Shots were fired at the taxi drivers and some passengers, unfortunately, they wounded during the crossfire,” he said.

The perpetrators drove away with the two other taxis.

Police are investigating a case of murder, hijacking and attempted murder.
