Kagiso Sekete: “We want to leave a legacy.”
"At the end of my life, when I stand near God I will be proud to say I used every talent I was given."
“At the end of my life, when I stand near God I will be proud to say I used every talent I was given,” said Kagiso Sekete (24), writer, comedian, producer and aspiring actor.
The 24-year-old Meadowlands Zone One native originally hails from Tlhabane in Rustenburg and is a hustler who owns Kagiso Sekete Productions.
“When I was young I was passionate about films, how they are made and who are the people behind the scenes?
“It all started when I was still in Grade Nine. I would always go to the Soweto TV studios and Zone 14 to check how they do this,” he said.
Sekete said that after matriculating he didn’t want anything but to follow his talent.
He added, “I didn’t want to shatter my dreams by working because it would have been a waste of all my efforts.”
At first, my family didn’t believe that I would be this far, they all thought that this was just a hobby.”
I usually used my cell phone to shoot comedies and edited them. I would send them to people within the community and they really loved it, that’s when I felt encouraged.
“The love and passion I have for film is inexplicable,” he said.
Sekete registered his company and has three members who he is running it with.
They are Kelebogile Lefakane, Tumisane Kopeka and Kagiso Sekete. “At Sekete Productions we do video shows, reality shows.
We just shot two music videos in 2011 with kaovl and Zone 14.”In 2010, I also produced beats and worked with Bloomwhos Productions in 2013. During that time I got a call from Urban Brew to work with them while they were shooting ‘Zabalaza’.”
In 2016 I had a lot of work in the Vaal region and we were helping with shooting movies.
“I see Sekete Productions as the biggest film production company and exposing it to the talented within the community.
“I want to work with young, fresh and passionate people from Meadowlands for them to not lose hope and give up on their careers.
“He said that they have shot nine local reality shows, three drama series and eight short stories he believes that their talent would generate enough income for the fledgeling production company.
“It’s hard for one to believe in something that’s been done. We joined ventures with Blue Lident pictures. We want to leave a legacy.
“Dreams do come true and you can make it in life if only you want to.”
