Just like you, trees breathe too.

EnvironMentorz and its stakeholders planted the trees in the schoolyard as part of their contribution to the ecological and environmental growth.

On Wednesday, September 6, the lovers of all things flora and fauna visited one of the primary schools in Eldorado Park.

The non-profit organisation based in Eldorado Park, Extension Nine, EnvironMentorz went to Boekenhout Primary School in Extension Three.

At the school, EnvironMentorz and other stakeholders which included councillor Fazel Jaffer and Mrs Africa Earth, Lisinda Thomas planted trees in the schoolyard.

They had analysed the need to teach the children in the community what it meant to appreciate the flora and fauna in the world. They also educated the learners about the importance of trees.

So you might ask yourself, why are trees are so important? Well, without trees there can be no life.

Trees provide humans with oxygen which keeps them breathing. It is a cycle of giving and taking, the carbon dioxide that we breathe out is what trees absorb and vice versa.

Another aspect that should be looked when it comes to the importance of trees is that they provide the world with another basic need which is food. The fruit and vegetables that are stored in the refrigerator all come from trees.

Trees also act as a physical filter when it comes to the trapping of dust in the air and absorbing air pollutants.

Trees also help when we are faced with soil erosion and flooding and a very important thing that has lost its sense of importance are that trees provide shade against the sun’s radiation.
