The Gauteng Department of Community Safety officers on Friday arrested a 57-year-old male vehicle examiner at the Roodepoort private testing station for fraudulently issuing a roadworthy certificate for a vehicle, an Isuzu Bakkie, which was impounded in the Free State province on September 8, 2017.

After a thorough investigation, the officers discovered that the same vehicle was declared roadworthy at Roodepoort private testing station on September 13, 2017.

The man has been detained at Roodepoort Police Station to face charges of fraud and corruption.

“I commend officers from the Gauteng Traffic Police for the sterling work in rooting out criminal elements within Driver, Learner Testing Centres (DTLCs).

“These are meant to be centres of excellence where we ensure that roadworthy vehicles are tested before they are cleared to be on our roads.

“I have been advocating a message of road safety and we will not hesitate to deal decisively with any element that stands on our way to achieving this goal,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Roodepoort Court today on charges relating to fraud and corruption.
