Big prize money up for grabs in annual Steven Pienaar Community Cup this year
Local soccer fans are in for a football treat as this year's tournament promises to be a spectacular soccer showpiece.

It’s that time of the year again when soccer fanatics will crowd the Oval stadium in Westbury for the Steven Pienaar Community Cup. The soccer showpiece gets bigger and better with more teams, more supporters and more entertainment. Last weekend, the Steven Pienaar committee hosted the draw for the open teams that will be playing against each other.
The groups are divided as follows:
Group A – Zonke Killers, Codessa Boys, and Breakthrough FC.
Group B – Catalonia, Yorkshires and Galatasary.
Group C – Reigerpark Juventus, Randfontein United, and Argentinos.
Group D – FC 67, Strokes and United FC.
Group E – of La Masia, Westbury Arsenals and Donchester.
Group F – Delux FC, Eagles FC, and Etimar FC.
Group G – Magicians, Munchen FC and Eden Park Callies.
Group H – of ASR FC, Snack is a snack, and Hlabisa Big 5.
Last year La Masia and Codessa battled it out in the finals, in an intense game as many supporters from our community depended on La Masia to win.

After a goalless first half, people thought that the game would go into penalties but Codessa had no intentions of that happening and managed to score a goal, ending the game on a 1-0 goal tally. Many local supporters were disappointed with the result, but the winning team celebrated as they walked home with R100 000 in prize money.

La Masia took home R50 000 for second place in the championship. This year, the prize money will be the same as last year and we can’t wait to see the giants battling it for the top spot once again. The open league will begin on June 9 at the Westbury Soccer Grounds.
