UPDATE: Learners and teachers to receive counselling at Newclare primary

Police have launched an investigation.

Today, a team from the Gauteng Department of Education will visit Newclare Primary School following a shooting incident outside the school yesterday. A parent was shot dead while fetching his child.

The department said no child was hurt in the shooting. A spokesperson for the department, Steve Mabona, said the team will visit the school to provide counselling to educators and learners who witnessed the brutal shooting.

Meanwhile, Sophiatown police spokesperson, Jerbes de Bruyn, said the victim died upon arrival at the hospital yesterday. Hours after shooting, two men were shot dead not far from the school.

This means that three people were killed in one day.

“It is too early to say if these shootings are related but the cases are being investigated,” said de Bruyn.
