For more information about the club visit their Facebook page - Atletico Football Club.

The Atletico Football Club (AFC) established in August 2005 is based in Eldorado Park, Ext 6 sports complex. The clubs alternative training ground is the stadium in Ext 9.

The aim of Atletico Youth Development is to identify players with excellent football skills and assist them in achieving their football ambition while also empowering them with academic enrichment.

“We produce quality players for the Eldorado Park and SAFA junior and senior regional teams, one of our main objectives is to join hands with Welfare and Drug organizations in our area, not just to promote football but to give the underprivileged an opportunity to express themselves on the field and broaden their vision in order to and to give them a fair opportunity to succeed or to reach their goals outside of the soccer field,” said Godfrey Southern, the chairman of AFC.

The football club accommodates football hopefuls not only from Eldorado Park, but surroundings areas namely, Nancefield, Freedom Park, Siyaya and neighbouring areas in Soweto. The club plays league, tournaments and friendly games around Gauteng.

“A clear example of the talent we produce is 16-year-old Kaylen Scheepers who recently travelled to Italy to represent South Africa in a mini world-cup tournament,” said Southern. Team South Africa won the tournament in Italy.

Diego Fredericks (14) and Leyvarn Le Roux (13) are under 15 and 13 hopefuls who dream of being professional soccer players. Both believe that with AFC they will reach their dreams.

Fredericks said that he started playing soccer because he wants to continue his parents’ legacy “Both my parents play the sport and I fell in love with it because of them,” said Fredericks.

Le Roux confirmed that playing the sport keeps him out of the streets and away from trouble. “It keeps me busy and focused. I can truly be myself on the field,” he said.

Southern said in a statement that trials for the senior team will be taking place towards the end of August and that anyone who is interested can contact him on 082 888 2299.

“Our pre-season should be taking place within the next two weeks,” he said.
