A new set of wheels for Raymond October

Raymond received a new wheelchair.

For many years 71-year-old Raymond October has been without a fully functional wheelchair, making daily tasks almost impossible for the elderly man.

The wheelchair October has been using has been giving him problems, and he has been unable to purchase a new one because he hasn’t been able to afford it.

Octobers’ son-in-law, Alfred Davids, said that the wheels on the old wheelchair were the main problem, “The wheels became rusted and we decided to replace them with plastic wheels but they haven’t been able to move properly, making movement for my father-in-law impossible,” he said.

Phillip Ratson, who is a devoted community leader and environmentalist, heard about October’s dilemma and decided to help find him a wheelchair which was in good working condition.

“Seeing the old man suffer like that really touched me, I wanted to help and so I did. I would be lying if I said I managed to donate it myself. Edna Harvey, who is a part of the Eldorado Park Senior Citizens Forum donated the wheelchair. I am so grateful for her willingness to help,” said Ratson.

October showed much appreciation for his new wheels and immediately asked for help to be placed into the new wheelchair.

“I am so happy, excited and grateful. For so long I struggled, my days were uncomfortable because I could not move my wheelchair properly, I feel freer now, thank you to Edna and Phillip for making this possible,” he said.

An emotional Davids expressed his gratitude for the wheelchair.

“We really struggled with the old wheelchair and I could see how frustrated it made my father-in-law, I believe he will feel less stressed now that his chair can move freely,” he said.
