Riverlea Cricket Club bowled out in 35 over with just 176 runs

Cricket: More than just innings

Riverlea: On Sunday, March 10, the sun was shining bright and the skies were clear and this was the perfect weather for some cricket. The atmosphere at the game was relaxed and each of the innings finished fast.

The cricket match was held at the Riverlea Cricket Ground. The club match was between the Riverlea Cricket Club and Joburg Cricket Club.

“This group goes to whatever age, to whatever your legs can carry you, but generally the age group is until about 40 and the starting age is 15. Our youngest player here is about 15,” said the coach of Joburg Cricket Club Bjorn Watkins.

The club match was part of the Gauteng’s Presidents B league. The league is affiliated to the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB). It is the fourth league in Gauteng and is the seniors 50 over competition, other leagues in Gauteng are Premier league A, Premier league B, and Presidents A.

The match was 50 overs each but ended up being a lot fewer overs than any of the teams expected. The first inning was played by the Riverlea Cricket Club, which at first seem to be a bit disappointing because by 35 overs all players had been bowled out. Although the club did have 176 runs.

The runs seemed to be easy for the Joburg Cricket Club to chase yet in a very disappointing turn of events the club could not even reach 20 overs.

All players were out by the 13th over. The number of runs made by the club was only 57.
