Excitement mounts as JOBURG 10K CITYRUN approaches

Elite runners to join the fun on Heritage Day.

Elite runners from the Boxer Athletics Club are gearing up for this is year’s JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition scheduled for September 24.

Some of the club’s elite runners who will celebrate Heritage Day with RYC include Bulelwa Semai, Tanith Maxwell, Elroy Gelant, Thabang Mosiako and many others. These runners will be looking at doing their fastest time in the race while adding to the excitement that comes with the RYC.

“Boxer athletes that have claimed gold in this series includes Thabang Mosiako, Stephen Mokoka, Elroy Gelant and Glenrose Xaba,” said Rhyn Swanepoel, Boxer Athletics Club National Manger adding that RYC is always at the top of the club’s running calendar.

Due to a high number of participants and COVID-19 restrictions, for the second time this year, the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN will be done virtually. Participants will choose their own routes and use the RYC tracking app to record their progress.

The Durban and Cape Town editions of the race will be done in a normal way provided no more restrictions are imposed.

“I decided to enter because I will be celebrating much more than just running a virtual race. I’m excited and nervous at the same time because entrants will not be running the same route. Some might have flat routes while others might have a route that features hills,” said Semai.

“I will really have to work hard. I might be alone on the road, but I won’t be alone in the race. I’m looking forward to running a faster time. My goal is to dip under 40 minutes.”
Race organizers also announced last week that the City of Joburg has come on board as a partner for this year’s event.
