Recognising hardworking learners

From each grade, top achievers in every learning area were recognised before the top three was announced.

Emshukantambo Secondary School continued with its campaign to honour and recognise learners who have done exceptionally well in the first term of the 2022 academic year.

The Pimville based school this week awarded certificates and trophies to Grade 8 and 9 top achievers while last week the spotlight was on Grade 10 and 11 learners.

What makes this year’s award ceremonies extra special is the fact that they coincide with the school’s 25th anniversary celebration. The school’s Projects Co-ordinator, Pule Hlahane said not only do these awards show appreciation to the learners for their hard work, but they also motivate them to do better and take their academic work more serious.

From each grade, top achievers in every learning area were recognised before the top three was announced. For Grade 8, Zama Zwana was named the overall top achiever with 661 points. Palesa Lekhafola took position one in Grade 9 with 656 points.

“Our wish is to celebrate our top achievers each term throughout the year. Since we started this initiative with the Grade 12 awards, we are seeing a healthy competition and motivation among our learners,” said Hlahane.

The healthy competition and motivation is evident from the cheers and ululations from the rest of the earners and teachers when top achievers are called on stage to receive their certificates. Judging from the marks this term’s top achievers got, it is safe to say the stakes will be high in the coming terms.

Meanwhile Hlahane was also recognised for his efforts and hard work in trying to make the school a better place for his learners. He received a gift all the way from Belgium from a team that works with the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus’s Fuculty of Education and Social Work and Emshukantambo Secondary School.
