Feeding scheme feeds in Protea South
“My child gets food from the feeding scheme, so I am thankful for what Mapule and her team are doing for the community."

Goleka NPO is a feeding scheme that was established in 2019 by Mapule Khumalo, a former counselor from Protea South, Buseka Charlie and Dikeledi Tane. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the NPO hosts an after-school soup kitchen for local children.

The organisation has managed to cater for more than 250 children in the past few years. Not only does the NPO focuses on the feeding scheme but it also provides school shoes, school uniform as well as food parcels to locals.
“Me and my colleagues saw that Protea South is a poor township and most residents are unemployed, so we decided to start this organisation to help fight hunger. This organisation allows us to shape the future of our children.
“As a parent it hurts to see a child not having school shoes but with the little we have, we make sure that we try and assist our children,” said Khumalo.
Goleka NPO aims to make a difference in the community and the founders are willing to go above and beyond as they plan to not only provide food but to also offer after school lessons such as academic entertainment and skills development programmes.
“We have partnered with a forum called aboMama and we believe that the forum will help us grow the NPO and also fight poverty,” said Khumalo.

“My child gets food from the feeding scheme, so I am thankful for what Mapule and her team are doing for the community.
“As an unemployed parent I know how hard it is to put food on the table so what the organisation is doing helps a lot of us,” said Yvonne Ntimane, a resident of Protea South.
Goleka NPO depends on sponsorships and donations from those who are able to lend a helping hand.
The organisation would be grateful if businesses and residents can work with them so that they can be able to continue feeding the community.
