Murder accused couple abandon bail application

More charges likely to be added as the pair is expected back in court in July.

The two murder accused, Nqobile Ndlovu and Co- accused Mthunzi Mzwakhe Zulu have abandoned their bail application, magistrate David Mhango heard on Friday morning, April 12.

The pair made their third appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was remanded for July 14 pending further investigations.

The accused duo was expected to apply for bail but the state prosecutor told the court that the pair had abandoned their bail application, and that the state was likely to add more charges.

Court proceedings took a shocking twist, when the grieving mother of the late 5-year-old Nqobitzitha, Nomthandazo Zulu, chuckled a tissue from the public gallery onto accused 1[Ndlovu] as she exited the dock.

“We are angry and are deeply hurt. She still gets a free plate of food, she getsto sleep comfortably while our children are dead, and we will never see them.

“Give her bail and we will deal with her as a community.

“We are waiting for her. They are disrespecting us, we will come here until the end of this case.

“We are not afraid of anyone, we are here to support the families, we have every right to be angry,” said an angry resident.

The state prosecutor also told the court that the post-mortem results and the DNA were still outstanding.

Ndlovu and her partner Zulu stand accused of killing of two Soweto boys, found mutilated last month.

Outside the court, family representative, Gcina Tshabalala said while the family was still shaken, they were confident that Justice would be brought for their loved ones.

“It is difficult to be standing here, knowing that the children won’t come back. Nqobizitha’s mother is not okay emotionally, she is trying to act strong but she is not okay.

“It has been difficult for her and the family, even when they called us inside the court, she became emotional and when she saw the accused, she began crying,” she said.

“We can’t believe that he is gone. We always think that he will comerunning through the door, we are deeply hurt.

“We don’t want her inside jail, we want her outside to suffer, just like she made those kids suffer.”

The charges brought against the accused include two counts of murder, kidnapping, perjury, and defeating the ends of justice.

The state had previously indicated that they would oppose their bail application.

“As the state, we cannot divulge much of the investigation process that is ongoing.

“As the prosecutor mentioned in court, there is a possibility that more charges may be added against accused one, Nqobile Ndlovu,” said NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane.

“Both the accused abandoned the bail application, but as the state, we will hear as and when they change their mind, but we have been ready to oppose their application to be released on bail.”
