Ennerdale community demands answers after suspect in teen’s killing is released

Residents of Lakeview in Ennerdale are calling for accountability after a suspect linked to the death of a 17-year-old boy was reportedly released from custody.

Residents are demanding clarity and accountability from police after a man alleged to have assaulted a 17-year-old boy was arrested and later released.

According to community members, the incident occurred on Friday, November 21, when the teenager was walking past a property and picked peaches from a tree in the yard.

He was confronted by the homeowner and allegedly assaulted during the dispute.A resident, who spoke to Jozi FM News on condition of anonymity, said the boy suffered serious injuries and was declared dead on the scene by emergency responders.

Tensions escalated over the weekend as frustrated residents gathered outside the Ennerdale Police Station seeking answers. Many said they were shocked to learn that the suspect was allegedly no longer in custody.

The community has since called for a thorough investigation and justice for the teenager, urging authorities to provide transparent communication about the case.

Police have not yet issued an updated statement on the investigation.
