Four suspects arrested after kidnapping in Moffat View

Johannesburg police rescued a 28-year-old victim and recovered an AK-47 during an operation in the area.

Johannesburg police have arrested four suspects and recovered an AK-47 following the alleged kidnapping of a 28-year-old man in Moffat View earlier this month.

The incident occurred on March 3, at about 09:40, when the victim was confronted by armed men. The suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at him, demanded cash, and took his cellphone to attempt a money transfer from his account.

Police acted quickly after the report, mobilising resources from the Johannesburg Central Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, including the Tracing team.

On March 6, information led officers to a house in Moffat View, where four suspects, aged between 28 and 47, were arrested, and the victim was safely rescued.

Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane, Johannesburg District Police media liaison officer, said the operation was a result of careful planning and swift action.

“The police worked diligently to locate and arrest the suspects. We also recovered an AK-47 and 24 live rounds of ammunition. The suspects will appear in court facing charges of kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm,” Tshetlhane said.

Johannesburg District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka commended the officers involved.

“I applaud the team for their hard work and commitment. Their actions ensure that our communities are safer and feel protected,” she said.

Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine whether any additional suspects are linked to the case.
